United States
Приєднався 25 сер 2007
I have practiced wilderness survival and bushcraft for 35 years, 15 of those years as a survival instructor in Brazil. In 2015 I was approached by Leftfield Pictures to apply for season 2 of The History Channel's hit survival reality show Alone. After 66 days of solo survival on the north end of Vancouver Island British Colombia, I was the last man standing to win season two. I now live in Grand Rapids MI where I am also a Public Speaker and Author of the post apocalyptic fiction series The Fall.
My Colhane Channel is dedicated to wilderness survival and bushcraft both in the US and Brazil. I post videos in both in English and in Portuguese, but try to use subtitles for those who don't speak both languages. Feel free to comment and ask questions and find me on twitter and my website www.DaveMcIntyreWIlderness.org

Survival Neck Knife Carry Options
I often hear about the danger of getting the neck cord snagged and creating a choking hazard. If the knife is carried inside the shirt there is very little danger of this, however there are circumstances in which you would want to avoid the possibility entirely. In this video I demonstrate several ways to carry the knife tied to the body in other ways.

McIntyre Rig Survival Neck Knife
Переглядів 10 тис.4 роки тому
I recently partnered with 51Bravo Knives to create my own design for the "McIntyre Rig" neck knife survival kit. I've carried the original based on a Livesay NRGS for nearly 20 years and it was time for an upgrade. This knife is designed from the start to be a proper host for a survival kit that is nearly impossible to lose in the wilderness. www.51bravo.com/product-page/mcintyre-rig?fbclid=IwA...
Machete Use and Abuse (legendado)

The machete is as close to the one tool concept as I get, but it comes very close to viability. In this video I use a machete to split out a section of seasoned cedar for a friction fire set, then carve the parts with the same blade. The Northwest Passage in Desolation Cove
Переглядів 2,5 тис.7 років тому
For the first month in the cove I spent most of my low tide fishing time out on the reef because it was producing food for me. Later I discovered a path through the rocks on the northwest side of the cove at dead low tide that opened up a large territory for fishing and foraging. That discovery, more than anything, gave me the food resources to remain in Desolation Cove. My website: Bushcraft /...
Fishing on the Point in Desolation Cove
Переглядів 14 тис.7 років тому
Fishing for Kelp Greenling and Striped Sea Perch was a daily activity. The Kelp Greenling is a very aggressive fish that became my staple food. Sea Perch are a large fish but very timid. I caught most of them by snagging them in the face as they toyed with the bait. Fishing with a line and pole was time critical and highly dependent on the tide and surf conditions. I could only fish during low ...
Desolation Cove Bowdrill with Dave McIntyre
Переглядів 6 тис.7 років тому
Diving Sparrow Knife Works - www.dskw.ca/ High tide was project time. In this video I make a bow drill kit for future use. The Cedar, collected off the beach, was far too damp to attempt to get a coal while I was there. If I had done this during the show I would have had to dry the fire board and spindle above the fire. Randy did a fantastic job with the bow drill on season two after the destru...
High Tide in Desolation Cove with Dave McIntyre
Переглядів 3,5 тис.7 років тому
They say, "When the tide is out the table is set." That is true, but it is a very big table, and when the tide is in, the kitchen is closed. The tide ruled my day in Desolation Cove. Low tide was time to forage and high tide was time to work on my shelter or get other projects done. The tide migrates later and later in the day with two lows and two highs per day. When low tide happened in the e...

If you're machete is so soft you can sharpen it with a file it will not last very long
Buy a sheet of 1084 or 1075 15n20 from New Jersey Steel Baron or Alfa knife supply. The main difference is you have to cut out the shape and make a handle. Heat it up red hot dip it in conala oil qnd bqke it in the oven at 375 for 1 hour . An extra 2 hours of extra work
Very nice video thank you for sharing I would like to tell you more about the children there's any way where we can connect?
Where are you Dave? Miss seeing your stuff
Dave do you have a video right after you won Alone?
Você fala português melhor do que muitos brasileiros... Kkkkk
.......
It was only 2 months 😂
Uau, no português ficou excelente, parabéns
That is a brilliant review of the Cold Steel Bushman. ❤ Good mods.
Great 👏👏👏
Excellent mod.
I have one, loaded it similarly, and I rarely go without it. Knife is superb.
Thank you Dave for your wonder testimonies.
So you're the one who burned down the Amazon.
That's paradise for a machete user......I could do that all day.
This knife ever break on you?
That's my knife making kid!
Boa noite Ficou qual o tamanho da lâmina...dede já obrigado
I call mine my POM Kit. Stands for Peace Of Mind Kit. It's 1.5kg of weird stuff packed into a black and white plastic zip-up toiletry bag. When I go into the dorp to do shopping it drops neatly into my handbag. When I scootle off into the bush to do bird photography it drops neatly into my backpack. Part of it is in two little pouches - my 'ouch' pouch (medical/hygiene) and my fire kit. I have Bioplus Chews, 2 sachets of sugar, 2 beef stock cubes. My SAK. Phone plus spare battery and funny little head harness so I can use the phone torch hands free. Lots of stuff.
Super late to comment, but the first thought I had with that blunt tip is perfect to chop through ice to get water.
Hello sir, if your still active here could you clarify if you where allowed to snare mammals on these season?
Really cool method. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍
How much money did he get?
As good today as it was 13 years ago
i'm one year older than this video. 2023 and 16 learning about making rope
Parabéns pelo vídeo irmão !! Realmente é um vício comprar facas . 🙏

I miss the old days of watching you guys in the bush. Its hard to believe how long it has been. Thanks for the great memories and inspiration. Hope to see some new videos from yall again someday.
Awesome videos. Congratulations on your achievement.
did you truly get the money?
Very impressive! You have great skills.
Great video!!
You need to learn about vines and trees that water running out of that vine you just buchered was supping a tree with water so you probably just killed a big tree so you could show off onn UA-cam great job sir
Best “two” knife review ever!
That background noise sounds like my tinnitus - horrible!
2023 here. I'm from future
I think that tablet is supposed to clean twice the amount of water you used, which naturally should reduce the chlorine concentration in the finished product.
I bring a survival kid. He does everything, really …
Great video Dave. Newt Livesay knives Rock! Do not buy this McIntyre Rig. I did and extremely disappointed!!
Dave, I apologize for leaving this comment, great video and demo of this knife. Being a fan of Newt Livesay knives, this knife is not even close. After watching this video I was excited to purchase one of these knives. I have many Newt Livesay knives and they are amazing blades! Unfortunately this knife is no where near that! I do not recommend this knife made by 51 Bravo! Absolutely disappointed in the purchase of this knife which I received today 6/22/23. I own hundreds of knives and the fit and finish/quality of this knife is not good. For $200 you can get a better knife for the money for sure! Shawn was good in allowing me to return this knife! This comment is reference the McIntyre Knife only, I don’t know about other knives made by 51 Bravo or own any other 51 Bravo knives. I will stick to my Newt Livesay NRGS for sure for my neck knife carry! Very disappointed!!
So what is the best time to harvest it?
That’s about what I bring too: Parang, mora style knife, swiss army knife + maybe a folding saw. I don’t do major amounts of wood processing for all night fires or building permanent shelters or stuff like that though.
I love my mini duku parang, is my most versatile blade
Stinking toe
I know I’m late to the game here but this is an awesome mod. Thanks for the quick how-to. I have an Imacasa I’m planning on doing this with soon
